Support for families and individuals in Sydney New South Wales
"I have been attending ACN Support Group meetings and at the social events run by the support group. ACN Hornsby Support Group members have walked with me and my son through the last 4 years of major challenges and tears, triumphs and laughter and most importantly the group feels like family to me. My son , who has problems forming and maintaining friendships, now feels at ease at the social outings with the group. He feels so accepted by the families in our group and looks forward to attending each month's social outing".

The Autism Community Network was established by the father of a boy with autism in September of 2011. Others joined in and brought their skills.
We now have more than 900 families (over 2,100 individuals) who come together on-line and 11 regions across Sydney to work on creating a society where people with autism and their families lead rich, full and rewarding lives.
To help us support the needs of our community, we have upgraded this website with the following features:
PROGRAM FOR TEENS ON THE SPECTRUM AND THEIR PARENTS
ACN has supported the shaping of this program designed to help teens on the spectrum and their parents. Following great success in its first round, it is now aiming to run in high schools across NSW.
If you would like to see your high school provide the program please make them aware of the information here, with relevant forms accessible on this website.

A few months ago the ACN worked with the NSW Auditors Department on a performance audit they conducted on NSW schools' support of students with disabilities..
Their final report was tabled to NSW State Parliament in April 2016. To see report, please click below.
We don't charge anything to help carers. We rely on fundraising and community support to survive. Please help us to continue doing what we do for so many families.

CARER CARD SURVEY
The NSW Carer Advisory Council is asking for feedback from carers regarding the concept of having a Carer Card.
This issue has been on the agenda for a long time, and many carers have been calling for some form of identification for themselves.
I would encourage you to complete the brief survey (link below). It will only take a few minutes.
The aim of a NSW Carer Card would be to improve the recognition of carers in NSW. It could be used by carers to identify themselves as a carer. It could also be used to access discounts, like the Seniors Card.
A short survey has been developed by Carers NSW on behalf of a NSW Carers Advisory Council working group. The information collected by this survey will be used to inform the working group about community interest in a NSW Carer Card and preferred options for how it could be implemented.
To complete the survey, visit https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/carer_card_survey.
The survey will close on Monday 29 August 2016.
NEW ACN SUPPORT GROUPS
Volunteer to host our Menai kids Fit & Friendly group.
We are actually looking at adding some variety to this group where we might mix it up with other activities as well (perhaps trampolining). The facilitator's job would mainly be to welcome all ACN parents and kids and sign them in, then enjoy a chat while the kids have fun.
We can only bring activities to the area if we have the support of the community so please contact email@example.com for more information if you may like to help out.
